Sharon joined
fellow MPs Roberta Blackman-Woods and Kevan Jones with people from
across the North East to celebrate the history of the suffragettes
at Beamish openair museum.

The event
gave local women (and men!) the chance to get dressed up to
re-enact protest marches undertaken by the Suffragettes to fight
for votes for women. The march was followed by a reconstructed town
meeting which took place under the nearby park bandstand in the
museum. Visitors to the museum looked on in amazement as all
involved were enthusiatically "in character" - both for and against
- during the march.
The event is
usually organised for school parties to help with their history
studies, but this was the first time the museum has staged the
event for adults.
A fabulous
day was had by all - despite the rain!
Sharon
remains the only woman MP in Tyne and Wear and she was delighted to
be able to join in the days celebrations.
