Sharon
met with local Pensioners down
in Parliament to discuss the state pension and levels of care for
older citizens.

Organised by the National
Pensioners' Convention, hundreds of pensioners descended on
Parliament, along with members of 15 Trade Unions to fight for a
better deal. Sharon met with 8 North East pensioners to hear
what they had to say in Parliament.
Sharon
said
afterwards,
“I was pleased that so many
people made the effort to come to London. We need to make
sure that this generation gets the respect and equality it
deserves, and that individuals are being properly cared for.
I am glad the lobby was able to raise concerns, and I feel that it
was a very worthwhile meeting.
The Labour Government has done
a lot for Pensioners, by increasing the winter fuel allowance and
plans to up state pensions, giving pensioners more money and
necessary support. The influence of pensioners has never been
ignored by the Government, and it was why I was so happy to meet
with them and reassure them that they will continue to get a fair
deal under this Government”.
