Sharon's Special Educational Needs
(Information) Bill received an unnopposed Second Reading in the
House of Lords today.
The Bill is being sponsored in the Lords by Baroness Pitkeathley
who has a strong track record of success with Private Member's
Bills to improve the rights of Carers. There were several notable
contributions from other peers. Most notable was that of Baroness
Warnock who was the architect of the Government's first ever
Special Educational Needs framework.
Baroness Warnock even went so far as to say the Bill was
'something she should have done'. Other contributions came from
Liberal Democrat peer Lord Addington who is severely dyslexic
himself and Conservative frontbench spokeswoman for education
Baroness Morris.
The Bill was put forward for a committee of the whole house and
is expected to reach Third Reading on Monday 7th July.
