Sharon met National Express East Coast Mainline Chief Executive David Franks to discuss issues facing passengers on the service since the change of ownership from GNER. It is important that the rail links to Newcastle are both frequent and punctual so that both Gateshead and Washington can continue to reap the benefits of the resurgence of culture in the North East. It was a very constructive meeting and Sharon was assured that early teething problems are now being ironed out by the new owners. The meeting also ensured that the line of communication is open in order to enable Sharon to keep making the case for railway fares which are affordable to all.
