Sharon attended an event held by the Speaker of the House of
Commons to mark the 90th birthday of ex South African President
Nelson Mandela. The event took place in the Speaker's Rooms at the
House of Commons and was attended by MPs from all parties. Although
not attended by the man himself this was an important evening for
reflecting on the lifetime of one of the true heroes of the last
century and refocusing on political priorities. There was much talk
of the situation in Zimbabwe which everyone wants to see resolved
justly and amicably. Speaking afterwards Sharon said " Like so many
people I grew up whilst Nelson Mandela was in prison and his
steadfast commitment to the cause of black rights in South Africa
was an inspiration to me. His eventual success just goes to show
what can be achieved when you have justice on your side and I hope
that Nelson Mandela can continue to inspire generations of people
in the years to come."
