Green boost available for homeowners 02.02.10

Local MP Sharon Hodgson is urging constituents to take advantage of financial support from Government and install energy saving technology in their homes.

From April those who install energy-generating devices will be able to claim money from the Government for the energy they produce, on top of the savings they’ll already have made to their household bills. Power from a solar panel could earn a household £900 on top of a £140 saving in energy bills, more than covering the cost of installation.

Sharon Hodgson MP said:

“I’m delighted that householders who make the effort to go green will be rewarded for their part in reducing our carbon emissions.

“Not only is this good news for households, but it will also create jobs for manufacturers and installers of solar panels and wind turbines.

“The shift to a low carbon economy is going to mean big changes, but with today’s announcement I hope that this will help local people to play their part. Obviously not many people will be in a position to dash out and buy a wind turbine tomorrow but every little helps.”

The scheme is designed to increase the take-up of green, locally produced energy. The Government estimates that 700,000 homes will be generating energy in this way by 2020.
