MP GETS A FAIR DEAL AT THE NEW CO-OPERATIVE IN WASHINGTON 11.03.2011

Sharon Hodgson supports Fairtrade fortnight in Washington

Sharon visited the new Co-operative store in Parson's Road, Washington, to help promote Fairtrade Fortnight, which aims to highlight the availability of products for which the producers, often small farmers in less developed countries, get a fair proportion of the money consumers evenutally pay.

Sharon said:"I am always happy to support Fairtrade Fortnight, and help raise awareness of the difference it makes to people's lives if we think fair trade all year round.

"It is crucial that we give producers around the world a fair deal, so I would encourage people to make the choice to support the farmers and workers who produce many of the groceries we take for granted.

"It was great to see the passion the staff in Washington clearly have for this cause, and I congratulate The Co-operative for leading the way in promoting Fairtrade products."
