Washington and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson has completed her search for a design for her Christmas card this year.
In a judging and awards ceremony at Washington Arts Centre, Mrs Hodgson and a panel of judges comprising Sunderland Echo Editor Rob Lawson, Cllr Henry Trueman, Margaret Massey from Sainsbury’s, Maureen Walwork from ASDA and Ivan Jepson from Northumbrian Water, chose a design by Lucie Green from Lambton Primary School, who was in the final as winner of the 3-5 age category.
Lucie’s finger painting of robins surrounding a frosty tree won her a family ticket for the Christmas panto at Sunderland Empire, a signed Sunderland AFC football and £30 ASDA voucher, and will be printed on the front of Mrs Hodgson’s Christmas cards, which are sent to local organisations and community leaders, as well as national politicians and public figures.
The two other age-category winners were Brooke Kelly from St. Anne’s RC Primary in the 5-8 category, and Precious Dzirutwe from Usworth Grange in the 8-11 category. They both won family tickets to the Empire, and will have their designs featured on the inside of the card. 3 other winning entries were awarded family tickets to Cineworld in Boldon with free refreshments and will feature on the back of the card.
Mrs Hodgson said: “As ever, the judges and I were extremely impressed by the quality of all the entries we received, and it was a very tough decision to pick an overall winner.”
“In the end though we all agreed that Lucie’s design showed real imagination and talent, and will look great printed on the front of my cards – I can’t wait to see them and send them out!"
“We had some really great prizes for the kids too, thanks to the generosity of Sunderland Empire, Cineworld Boldon, Sunderland AFC and ASDA and Sainsbury’s in Washington. I hope the winners and their families enjoy them over the festive period.”
