Sharon attended the official opening of Red House Academy in Sunderland, where she was taken on a tour of the new building and sample a number of musical performances from pupils.  Sharon is pictured here with Dr Thérèse Quincey, Principal of the new Red House Academy.

The school was opened by Niall Quinn, chairman of Sunderland AFC, and the day finished with a fireworks display.  Sharon was very impressed with what she saw, and sees it as evidence of the success of the Government’s Academies programme.
