Sharon was in the chamber today to hear the Queen’s Speech, as well as getting a taste of all the pomp and ceremony around it! The speech contained a number of important new plans such as the establishment of a National Care Service, which will give care to thousands of people with serious needs such as dementia or Parkinson’s disease. Also planned are parent and pupil guarantees about standards in schools to make sure children are getting the best standards of education, which is an area of particular concern to Sharon. The Speech also talked about making rules for energy firms to provide support for poorer customers, which will have a big impact in Gateshead and Washington, as well as plans to change how the banking system is regulated so bankers in London can’t endanger the economic stability of the whole country. Sharon is confident that these are policies which respond to the concerns people in the constituency have had, and she is looking forward to helping the Government put these plans into action in her role as a Whip.
