Sharon responded to a Westminster Hall debate on School Food as Shadow Minister with responsibility for this area of policy.

She reiterated the points raised by other MPs in the debate, who are concerned that the Government are throwing away the years of investment and hard work aimed at ensuring that as many children as possible eat a hot, nutritious meal at school.

Specifically, she criticised the ending of teh ringfenced School Lunch Grant, which helped caterers to keep prices low and quality high, and the fact that free schools and academies would not be subject to the same nutritional standards as schools remaining under local authority control.

Sharon's speech can be read in the Speeches section, while the full debate can be read in Hansard, or watched on ParliamentTV.

Sharon is currently in the process of setting up an All Party Group on School Food to provide a regular forum for discussion of these issues in Parliament.
