Sharon attended the annual Thomas Hepburn Memorial Service organised by the Durham NUM at St Mary's Church in Heworth.  After the very well-attended service, there was a wreath laying service at the graveside of Thomas Hepburn, who is the man attributed with the birth if the trade union movement and the NUM.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Gateshead, Council Leaders from Gateshead and Sunderland, and MPs, both current and retired.  Baroness Joyce Quin of Gateshead, who is a longstanding supporter of the event was also at the service.  The address was given by George Galloway.

Music was provided by the N.U.M. North East Area Band.
