Sharon Hodgson MP backs ‘Real Policing Pledge’ 25.03.10

Sharon at signing of Real Policing Pledge

Sharon Hodgson, MP for Gateshead East and Washington West, has thrown her suport behind the Policing Federation’s ‘Real Policing Pledge’. The pledge praises the important work that PCs do, and aims to ensure the Government keeps it promise to train all officers to the necessary standards.

Sharon said: “Having seen first hand the dedication of police constables in my constituency I am committed to making sure that they are supported as well as they possibly can be. Our Bobbies are the bedrock of modern policing, and the fall in crime we’ve seen over the past decade is in large part due to their hard work and dedication. I am only too happy to support the Police Federation’s ‘Real Policing Pledge’ and do what I can to support them in their work.”

The five principles in the ‘Real Policing Pledge’ are: upholding the Office of Constable as the bedrock of modern policing; maintaining the number of warranted police constables in England and Wales; ensuring that all constables are adequately trained to do their jobs; committing to maintaining an effective ratio of police constables to support staff on community policing teams; and honouring the Police Negotiating Board (PNB).
