Sharon spoke during Commons’ questions, saying that we need creativity to fight our way out of the recession and urging the government to do all they can to encourage ingenuity in the business world.
Liam Byrne, the current Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, said that the Government did not believe in cutting spending and investment in public services. The public net investment of £30 billion in 1997 will have increased to £40 billion by 2009-10.
Sharon then went on to praise companies such as Smith Electric Vehicles in Washington which could encourage the public sector to be more creative and greener. Smith Electric Vehicles has been leading the field for many decades. Mr Byrne shared Sharon’s praise of electric vehicle companies and said that he remains “passionately committed” to this cause.
Sharon said,
“Companies such as Smith Electric Vehicles show innovation and propel us into a greener future, as they are the world’s largest manufacturer of electric road vehicles. The importance of firms such as Smith Electric Vehicles is clear as we made bolder steps towards reducing climate change.
I am reassured of the Government’s commitment to public services and that they are doing their utmost to support companies at this time.”
