Sharon, attended the State of the City Debate held and organised by Sunderland Youth Parliament.
Sharon Hodgson was impressed by the quality of debate at Sunderland Youth Parliament’s annual ‘State of the City’ debate at Sunderland Civic Centre.
Sharon attended along with fellow Sunderland MPs Julie Elliott and Bridget Phillipson, Local Councillors and Youth Leaders from the City to hear a wide-ranging debate on the issues most important to young people in the city, including sport and social facilities, education, money, training and jobs, and sex and relationship education.
Sharon Hodgson said: “It was great to attend this debate, and I was really impressed by the passion young people have for improving their communities and taking the views of their peers to the people who can make a difference.
“It is vital that young people’s views are taken into account when politicians and officials make decisions which have a major impact on their lives – something that I have pushed for in Parliament.”
Mrs Hodgson recently tabled a motion in Parliament criticising the Government for not listening to young people before scrapping school building projects and other programmes, and calling on them to do so in the future. The motion is currently backed by 67 of her fellow MPs.
