Sharon wrapped up an Opposition Day debate on Sure Start Children's Centres as Shadow Minister for Children and Families.

MPs debated a motion which called on the Government to step in to protect Children's Centres where they were under threat, and rethink its decision to cut funding for - and remove the ringfence from - the new Early Intervention Grant, which is distributed to councils to pay for Sure Start Children's Centres and 21 other programmes. Funding that councils will receive in the 11/12 financial year will be an average 22% lower than that allocated at the beginning of the 10/11 year.

Unfortunately, Conservative and Liberal Democrat MPs voted against the motion.

Sharon's speech can be read here, or viewed here.
