Sharon and her staff were given a tour of the Qashqai production line at Sunderland's Nissan factory.

Sharon was impressed with the efficient production methods, but was particularly happy that Nissan provides so many skilled jobs for people in Washington, Sunderland and beyond - it is estimated that 5,000 jobs across the North East depend directly or indirectly on the Nissan plant.

Sharon was also pleased to hear that Nissan will be taking on 75 apprentices this year, and that many young people who join the firm go on to supervisory or managerial roles within the company - the current Senior VP for Nissan Europe started his career when the Sunderland site opened 24 years ago.
