I hope you’ve had a chance to look around the website and see how I’ve been working hard for Washington over the past five years. My highest priority has been to stand up for my constituency in Parliament and across the North East. I’m proud of what we’ve managed to do, and what the Labour Government’s done, but now the election’s coming I need your help to get the message out.
 
Since I was elected I have campaigned hard in Parliament, leading to a better service for my constituents…

• The end of hospital parking charges and the ban on using mobile phones in hospitals.
• The introduction of free school meals for another half a million primary school children in England.
• The return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to their spiritual home in 2013.

And since 1997, the Labour Government has…

• Introduced the National Minimum Wage, guaranteeing a basic salary for workers.
• Invested heavily in our schools and hospitals to deliver world-class public services we can be proud of.
• Given real support to those suffering from the effects of an unprecedented global recession.

I’m working hard to be elected as the MP for Washington and Sunderland West come the General Election, but I can’t do it alone. If you feel able to donate anything, whether it’s £5 or £500, it would be a massive help to the campaign.
