Washington Old Hall is the ancestral home of America's first President, George Washington.

Sharon was invited along to join the annual 4th of July celebrations, organised in partnership by the National Trust, Friends of Washington Old Hall and Sunderland City Council.

This long-established ceremony sees the raising of the American flag, speeches and contributions by local schoolchildren.

The event was attended by pupils from George Washington Primary School, John F Kennedy Primary, Broadway Primary and Washington School.

Sunderland Mayor and Mayoress Barry and Carol Curran, Local Washington Councillors and Mr Jon Gann (Creator and Director of DC Shorts - a short film festival in Washington DC), representatives of the National Trust and Friends of Washington Old Hall all came together to mark this annual event.
