Sharon Hodgson, MP for Washington and Sunderland West and Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Keir Starmer MP, Leader of the Labour Party, is looking for the ideal candidate to join her hard-working, fast-paced and committed team in the constituency to support with administration and communications - APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED.

Applicants should be highly literate, efficient and personable, extremely well-organised with a strong attention to detail and a genuine passion to serve the constituents of Washington and Sunderland West.

This would be an ideal opportunity for a candidate with at least 6-9 months experience in a similar role, who is looking to work for someone on the Shadow Frontbench and who is an active and dedicated constituency Member of Parliament.

The role is offered as full time but requests for flexible or part-time work will be considered.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Management of a busy MP’s diary;
• Assist with arrangements for events; this may include: venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest-lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support as required;
• Assist in the updating of social media on request;
• Assist in the compilation of briefing packs and speeches;
• Dealing with and monitoring incoming telephone and visitor enquiries, responding to emails and letters, efficient data and file management;
• Drafting responses to constituent and general correspondence and keeping records on the caseworker.mp software;
• Liaising with key stakeholders;
• Adhering to the Data Protection Act principles and respecting the confidentiality of data at all times;
• Performing other duties as and when required.

• Confidence interacting with members of the public and stakeholders;
• Capacity to manage a high and complex workload;
• Ability to produce quality written work at pace;
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
• Ability to manage and prioritise workloads;
• Ability to work effectively in a small team;
• Support for the aims and objectives of the Labour Party;

Initial contract will be for one calendar year, pending a successful probationary period of 6 months and further review towards the end of the contract.

Upon appointment, you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
