Sharon joined ex-service men and women volunteer poppy sellers, who are giving up their time this month to raise money and awareness, for this year’s appeal, as well as representatives from The Rotary Club of Washington and Washington Athletic FC.
Washington Athletic FC are affiliated with the Washington Branch of the Royal British Legion along with Usworth Army Cadets.
The money raised helps fund the welfare work of the Royal British Legion, as they provide through-life care to anyone who has served in the British Armed Forces, as well as their families.
Speaking after the event Sharon commented:
"As every year passes it becomes more and more important to remember those who gave their lives for us, and also to remember the duty we have to those still with us and those still serving."
"Our armed forces are the best in the world, and being able to work with the Royal British Legion and launch our local poppy appeal is truly one of the proudest things I do as a Member of Parliament."
"We should all wear our poppies with pride, and take time to thank all those who have served our country, both past and present, and donate to this amazing appeal."
