Sharon is encouraging constituents who are vulnerable or have additional needs, or know someone who does, to register with Northern Powergrid’s Priority Services Register, in case of a power cut.
Northern Powergrid can ensure that those who rely upon medical equipment, are elderly, sick or disabled, are looking after young children, or who need additional communication support, receive extra help in the instance of a power cut.
This can mean help with travelling to a friend’s or family member’s home, arranging visits from the British Red Cross, or the supply of a medical generator to power vital medical equipment.
Constituents can also register to receive updates by phone or text, and regular check-ups to make sure they are well during an outage.
Sharon Hodgson MP said:
“Power shortages thankfully do not happen very often, but when they do, can inconvenience our everyday lives. Those who live alone, are disabled or have additional needs, or are elderly, know this more than most.
“This is a brilliant scheme which ensures that those who need support during a power cut are not forced to struggle alone.
“I would encourage those who would benefit from additional support, or know someone who could, to sign up to the Priority Services Register online, or on the phone.”
Those interested can sign up to the Priority Services Register by visiting: www.northernpowergrid.com/care
or contacting the Northern Powergrid Care Team on 0800 169 2996.
